Inspira's Story

“I founded Inspira to bring everyone the same spirulina I grew for my mom.”

Inspira's Story

How we got here.

  1. 2015

I grew up as a nerd.

I was always interested in science. In seventh grade, I built a car that ran on water. When I saw something interesting, I had to learn everything about it.

  2. 2016

    My mom was diagnosed.

The early roots of Inspira began when I was in 8th grade, after my mom was diagnosed with smoldering myeloma. I wanted to help, and I found raw spirulina online to aid her nutrition.

Raw spirulina was impossible to find, and I wanted her to have it. So I found a spirulina culture online, and Inspira began.

  3. 2017

    My first spirulina culture.

In a 40-gallon aquarium, I had my first culture. It was small, but enough for my mom and a few other people.

After I was in production, my teachers heard about what I had going on, and a few of them started buying it from me.

  4. 2023

My time at the University of Wyoming.

I studied chemical engineering with an emphasis in biochemistry, which is where I finally learned the actual science behind everything I had been working out by trial and error.

I developed the research and business plan for Inspira Nutrition, which helped secure the largest solopreneur grant awarded to date by the Ellbogen Foundation.

  5. Today

We freeze it instead of drying it.

Nearly all spirulina on the market is spray-dried or drum-dried before being pressed into tablets. These drying methods are cheap and create a shelf-stable product, which is why they are the industry standard. However, the heat used during drying can degrade many of the bioactive nutrients that make spirulina so highly valued.

So we don't dry ours. It goes from harvest into single serve sachets and into the freezer, without being dried, heated, or mixed with anything else.

What started as a mission to help my mom has grown into Inspira Nutrition's purpose: bringing fresh, nutrient-rich spirulina to everyone.
